From Cleveland to Washington DC

Hallo zusammen!
Ich bin mittlerweile in DC. Bevor ich euch von diesem Abschnitt berichte, wollte ich noch mal kurz von Cleveland berichten.

Ich war nämlich an meinem letzten Tag in Cleveland noch in der Rock Hall! Wenn ihr jemals in Cleveland seid, GEHT DAHIN! Es war einfach toll. Ich habe z.B. die ORGININAL Jacke von Michael Jackson gesehen, die er im Thriller Video anhatte. Ich hätte so gerne ein Foto für Judith gemacht, aber fotografieren war verboten! Daher gibt es auch nur ein Bild von außen:


Dann ging es Dienstagnacht um 2 Uhr morgens!!! Mit dem Amtrak Zug nach Washington DC... 12 Stunden, aber es war nicht so schlimm wie im Bus. Ich hatte durchweg eine tolle Aussicht:

Nachmittags war ich endlich in DC, bin mit der U-Bahn nach Vienna und wurde dort von Alfredo abgeholt. An dieser Stelle noch mal ein ganz ganz dickes DANKESCHÖN an Alfredo und seinen Mitbewohner Skip, die mich so herzlich bei sich aufgenommen haben.

DC ist wirklich eine außergewöhnliche Stadt. Es gibt so viel zu sehen, an wirklich jeder Ecke. Besonders beeindruckend war für mich: National Archives, American Art Museum, Capitol, Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument... das volle Programm.







Ein besonderes Highlight ist aber auch das Haus von Alfredo! Im Wald gelegen, total schön gebaut, mit Pool und Bar im Garten. Richtig amerikanisch! Und nicht zu vergessen der Besuch im deutschen Biergarten :) Prost! Endlich deutsches Bier.

Hi!
I am now in DC. Before I tell you about this part of my triop, I want to add something about Cleveland.

On my last day in Cleveland I was at the Rock Hall! If you're ever in Cleveland, go there! It was just great. I saw e.g. the ORGININAL jacket from Michael Jackson that he wore in the Thriller video. I wanted to take a picture for Judith, but that was absolutely prohibited! Therefore, here is only one picture from the outside.

Then it was Tuesday night by 2 clock in the morning! The Amtrak train to Washington DC ... 12 hours, but it was not as bad as the bus. I also had a great view all the time.
In the afternoon I finally arrived in DC, the subway train to Vienna, where I was picked up by Alfredo. At this point, again a very very big THANK YOU to Alfredo and his roommate Skip, who were so nice to me!

DC is truly an extraordinary city. There is so much to see, at really every corner. Very impressive to me was: National Archives, American Art Museum, Capitol, Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument ... the full program.

A special highlight is also the home of Alfredo! In the woods, built totally beautiful, with pool and outdoor bar. Typical American! And dont forget the visit in the German "Beergarden" ;o) - PROST! Finally good beer.

Dann will ich doch mal schnell den ruhigen Moment nutzen und euch über die neuesten Ereignisse informieren!

Ich bin am Freitagabend in Cleveland angekommen, wurde vom Busbahnhof abgeholt und gleich am ersten Abend mit den wichtigsten Sehenswürdigkeiten der Stadt vertraut gemacht - den Bars!
Mein Bekannter vom Rock Boat, Scott, war so nett und hat mich bei sich aufgenommen. Er und sein Kumpel JD haben mir das Nachtleben der Stadt nähergebracht. Als Gegenleistung gab es von mir jede Stunde ein schmutziges deutsches Wort. Ein Highlight des Abends war die Kellnerin im Irish Pub... aber diese Geschichte erzähle ich dem ein oder anderen lieber mal unter 4 Augen ;o). Jen, so ihr Name, war Schuld, dass ich so viel getrunken habe... ich wollte nämlich eigentlich gar nichts trinken! Auch sehr cool war das Pärchen aus Virgina Beach (Kyle und Ashley) mit denen wir den Rest des Abends verbracht haben.

Am Samstag stand Burning River Festival auf dem Programm (Website hier) mit Mary Lea, Gary und Freunden. Die beiden kenne ich vom Rock Boat (woher sonst). So herzliche und wunderbare Menschen, ich freue mich schon sie im Januar wiederzusehen.
Die Amis sind ja schon ein wenig verrückt... es wurde "Weihnachten im July" gefeiert und passend dazu gab es ein spezielles Bier "Christmas Ale". Außerdem haben auf dem Festival einige Bands gespielt, unter anderem Out From Under (Website hier) mit denen Mary Lea und Gery befreundet sind. Die Welt ist ein Dorf: Die Schwester des Leadsingers ist Jen, die ich im Irish Pub am Abend zuvor kennengelernt habe. Wir hatten einen verdammt tollen Tag, ich kann gar nicht alle Details erzählen. Es war einfach super!

Insgesamt ist Cleveland eine wunderbare Stadt. Und dieser riesige See "Lake Erie" ist eher ein Meer als ein See. Hier kann man es wirklich gut aushalten und ich bin auch schon traurig, dass es morgen Nacht wieder weiter geht.

Bevor ich für heute Schluss mache, hier noch mal ein RIESEN DANKESCHÖN an Scott, Mary Lea und Gery und all die coolen Leute, die ich in den zwei Tagen hier kennenlernen durfte!

I will quickly use this quiet moment and inform you about the latest events!

I arrived in Cleveland on Friday, was picked up from the bus station and got familiar with the main attractions of the city - the bars!
My friend from the Rock Boat, Scott, was so nice and let me stay at his home. He and his buddy JD showed me the night life of the city. In return, it told them every hour a dirty word in German. A highlight of the evening was the waitress at the Irish Pub ... but this story I will tell you in person sometime. Jen, so her name, was the reason that I drank so much ... I really didnt want to! Also very cool was the couple from Virginia Beach (Kyle and Ashley) with which we have spent the rest of the night.

Burning River Festival on Saturday with Mary Lea, Gary and friends. I know them from the Rock Boat (where else). So sweet and wonderful people, I'm looking forward to see them again in January.
The Americans seem to be a little crazy sometimes ... It was "Christmas in July" celebration and they had a special beer "Christmas Ale". Also some bands played at the festival, including Out From Under who Mary Lea and Gery are friends with. The world is a village: The sister of the leadsinger is Jen, I have met in the Irish pub the night before. We had a damn good day, I can not tell all the details. It was just AWESOME!

Overall, Cleveland is a wonderful city. And this huge lake "Lake Erie" is more a sea than a lake. I really enjoyed the time here and I'm already sad that I have to leave tomorrow at night.

Ich sitze gerade im Bus von Detroit nach Cleveland während ich diesen Blogeintrag schreibe. Seit 3 Stunden bin ich schon unterwegs und bald am Ziel. Ich hatte eine wirklich tolle Zeit in Windsor (Canada) und ich vermisse Mary Faye und ihre Familie schon jetzt.



Hier die Highlights der Woche:Tag 1: Abendessen... es gab CORN, Ribs und Chickenbreast mit Kartoffeln. Ja, das war tatsächlich ein Highlight, denn ich habe vorher noch nie einen Maiskolben gegessen. Natürlich wurde das jedem Bekannten erzählt "Das deutsche Mädchen hat noch nie vorher Maiskoblben gegessen" ;o)


Tag 2: Morgens großartiges Frühstück und mittags Schwimmen bei der Schwägerin von Mary Faye und "Gewürz-Party". So wie man bei uns Tupperparties kennt, hat Candice bei sich eine Gewürzparty veranstaltet. Da war ich bei den Hausfrauen mit meinen Kochkünsten ja genau richtig. Verstanden habe ich auch nur die Hälfte, aber geschmeckt hat es super gut - das ist ja die Hauptsache!




Tag 3: TWILIGHT! Wir sind in die "Mall" gefahren, damit ich endlich den 3ten Teil der Twilight Saga schauen konnte. Vorher gab es aber noch meine Geburtstagsüberraschung: PEDIKÜRE! Haha... an meine Füße habe ich ja noch nie jemanden rangelassen... ich habe mich wie ein richtiger Anfänger angestellt, das Wasser war zu heiß, es hat gekitzelt und ich habe mich vor den skurillen Gerätschaften zum Bearbeiten meiner Füße gefürchtet. Aber das Resultat war super: super softe Füße und schöne Nägel.





Tag 4: Abendessen bei Chantelle. Sie hat von ihren Lieblingschinesen bestellt und wir haben uns zwei Filme angesehen. Ich hätte gerne eine ihrer Katzen mitgenommen, die waren ja so niedlich. Abends haben wir uns dann noch die Skyline von Detroit angesehen... aus sicherer Entfernung ;o)

Tag 5: Mary Fayes Mutter hat uns Mädels zum Essen ausgeführt. Ja, irgendwie haben wir dauernd gegessen. Es schmeckt aber auch alles so gut hier, da kann man nur schwer widerstehen. Später am Abend sind wir ausgegangen zum Tanzen. Wenn im Internet irgendwo ein Video davon auftaucht - Das bin NICHT ich *hehe*

So, nun muss ich hier ausmachen, bin bald da und werde (hoffentlich - ich bin da jetzt etwas skeptisch geworden) von Scott am Busbahnhof abgeholt.

***retarded english version*** I'm sitting in the bus from Detroit to Cleveland while writing this blog entry. For 3 hours I'm on my way and ill arrive soon. I had a really great time in Windsor (Canada) and I already miss Mary Faye and her family.

Here are the highlights of the week:
Day 1: Dinner ... They had CORN, ribs and Chicken Breast with potatoes. Yes, that was actually a highlight, because I have never eaten a corn cob before. Of course, that every acquaintance told "The German girl has never before eaten corn" :o)

Day 2: Morning breakfast and great lunch swim in the in-law of Mary Faye and "spice-Party". Just as we know Tupperware parties, Candice has organized itself in a spice party. I was with the housewives with my cooking skills so exactly right. I understood even half, but it tasted super good - that's the main thing!

Day 3: TWILIGHT! We went to the "mall" so I could finally see the 3rd part of the Twilight Saga. Before, it was still my birthday surprise: PEDICURE! Haha ... I've never let someone touch my feet before... I was a real beginner, the water was too hot, it tickled and I was afraid of the bizarre equipment to edit my feet. But the result was super: super soft feet and beautiful nails.

Day 4: Dinner at Chantelle. The appointment of their favorite Chinese and we watched two films. I would like to have taken one of her cats, they were so cute. In the evening we watched the skyline of Detroit ... from a safe distance ;o)

Day 5: Mary Faye's mother took us girls out to dinner. Yes, somehow we have eaten all the time. However, it also tastes everything so well here, as you can resist only with difficulty. Later that evening we went out to party. If somewhere on the Internet a video of it appears - Its NOT ME * hehe *

So, now I have to stop writing, I'm almost there and I will (hopefully - I'm here now become a little skeptical) picked up Scott at the bus station. (NOTE: HE DID!)

Leaving New York

Hallo zusammen!

Ich bin jetzt in Windsor, Ontario, Canada! Ja, ich habe es tatsächlich alleine bis hierher geschafft! *STOLZ* :o)

Meine letzten 2 Tage in New York waren großartig. Ich habe es aber etwas ruhiger angehen lassen. Ground Zero, Brooklyn Bridge und ein kleiner T-Shirt Shop in Soho waren die Hightlights. Zum relaxen DVD schauen mit Sams Mitbewohner Dan, mit dem ich Freitagabend noch auf ein Bier in New Yorks schäbigster Bar war (Danke für den Tanz, Dan), American Pizza mit Sam und Samstagabend ging es schon los mit dem Bus nach Detroit.

Busfahren... das ist hier so eine Sache... günstigste Möglichkeit von A nach B zu kommen. Und dementsprechend reist man auch. Es war nicht so schlimm wie erwartet, aber 13 Stunden im Bus sind einfach ZU ANSTRENGEND! Ich habe mir fest vorgenommen nie mehr als 15 Stunden
am Stück mit dem Bus zu fahren.

Gestern bin ich um 11:50h pünktlich in Detroit angekommen, wo Mary Faye mich schon erwarttet hat. Ein tolles Gefühl, wenn man sich auf Leute verlassen kann. Der Grenzbeamte in Detroit war hot *hehe* Und ich kam ihm wohl verdächtig vor... nachdem ich das 5te mal gesagt habe "Nein, ich suche in Kanada keine Arbeit" hat er uns dann fahren lassen.

Hier bin ich nun also... in Windsor Canada! Aber dazu mehr im nächsten Beitrag!

Hi!

I am now in Windsor, Ontario, Canada! Yes, I am actually alone this far! * PRIDE * :o)

My last two days in New York were great. I had a quiet day. Ground Zero, Brooklyn Bridge and a small T-shirt shop in Soho were the Hightlights. To relax even watch DVDs with Sam's roommate Dan, with whom I was in New York's dirtiest bar on Friday night (Thanks for the dance, Dan), American Pizza with Sam and Saturday night i already had to take the bus to Detroit.

Bus travel ... this is such a thing ... cheapest way to get from A to B. It was not as bad as expected, but 13 hours in the bus simply are too much! I am determined to take the bus never more than 15 hours at a time.

Yesterday I arrived in Detroit at 11:50h, where Mary Faye was already waiting for me. A great feeling when you can rely on people. The guy at the customs in Detroit was hot * hehe * And I probably came to him suspicious ... after I have the 5th time said, "No, I'm looking for a job in Canada", he let us go then.

Here I am now so ... Windsor in Canada! But more about that in my next post!

DAY 1 - New York City

Hallo zusammen!
Jetzt habe ich endlich etwas Zeit mich zu melden! Ich hatte eine tolle Anreise! Eigentlich kamen mir 5 Stunden Aufenthalt in Dublin viel zu lang vor, nachdem ich dann aber im Irish Pub am Flughafen mein erstes Guinness überhaupt bgetrunken habe, in Gesellschaft von netten Amerikanern, die den selben Flug wie ich hatten, waren die 5 Stunden mit einmal viel zu kurz.
Ein gelungener Start in den Urlaub.
Leider nicht so erfreulich war die Ankunft am JFK. Mein Bekannter, mit dem ich die ganzen 2 Monate verbringen wollte, ist einfach nicht aufgetaucht. Mehr möchte ich über diese Person auch gar nicht sagen, das würde sicher eh alles zensiert werden. Und das meiste konnte man ja auch auf Facebook mitverfolgen.
So... nun steh ich da also ganz alleine am JFK, 22:00 Uhr, ohne Hotel, ohne Plan von der U-Bahn... Nein, ganz so war es dann doch nicht. Ein HOCH auf die weibliche Intuition, ich habe mir vorher schon einen Plan B für diesen Fall zurechtgelegt.

Sam, ein Freund, den ich vom Rock Boat kenne, hat mich bei sich aufgenommen. Er wohnt in Manhattan, mitten drin - Lower East Side, gleich am Tompkins Square Park.
Wir hatten gestern einen total schönen Tag mit Central Park, Times Square und Fähre rund um Manhattan. Die Stadt ist riesig! Der Central Park wunderschön! Ich glaube einen besseren Touristenführer als Sam kann man nicht haben - er weiß so viel über New York und die Sehenswürdigkeiten, historischen Ereignisse und viele kleine Insider Stories. Einfach Großartig!

Heute muss er arbeiten, dann ziehe ich alleine los. U-Bahn fahren kann ich ja jetzt und sicher ist es tagsüber auch. Mal sehen, was ich alles schaffe... Metropolitan Museum steht oben auf der Liste, Ground Zero und Rockefeller Center.

Morgen gehts weiter mit dem Bus nach Detroit, wo ich dann abgeholt werde von meiner Freundin Mary Faye. Da werde ich mich dann wieder melden!

Hi!
Now I finally have some time to notify me! I had a great trip! Actually, my five hours stay in Dublin were far too long after I bgetrunken but then at the Irish Pub at the airport my first Guinness ever in the company of nice Americans, who had the same flight as I, with the 5 hours were once much neglected.
A successful start to the holiday.
Unfortunately, not as pleasing was the arrival at JFK. My friend, with whom I wanted to spend the whole two months just didnt show up. That's all I want to say about this person, which would surely be censored before everything. And the most you could even watch on Facebook.
So now I stand here all alone at JFK, 22:00 clock, without a hotel, without a plan of the underground ... No, so it was not then. A HIGH on female intuition, I had previously made a plan B for this case.

Sam, a friend I knew from the Rock Boat, has taken me with him. He lives in Manhattan, right in the middle - Lower East Side, right next to Tompkins Square Park.
Yesterday we had a totally enjoyable day in Central Park, Times Square and boat around Manhattan. The city is huge! The Central Park beautiful! I can not believe a better tour guide as Sam - he knows so much about New York and the sights, historic events and many small insider stories. Simply Great!

Today he has to work, I prefer going alone. travel on the underground I can now and it is also safely during the day. Let's see what I can do everything ... Metropolitan Museum stands high on the list, Ground Zero and Rockefeller Center.

Tomorrow I continue by bus to Detroit, where I will be picked up by my friend Mary Faye. Then I will write again!

Ich erkläre meinen Blog offiziell für eröffnet

Heute in einer Woche sitze ich schon im Flieger nach NEW YORK (okay, genau genommen sitze ich dann noch in Dublin fest, aber was solls).

Gepackt habe ich noch nicht im Entferntesten und ich habe auch noch keinen genauen Plan, was ich mir alles ansehen werde. Dank meiner lieben Arbeitskollegen (ups… Ex-Arbeitskollegen, die ich übrigens echt vermisse) habe ich im Flugzeug einiges über die Sehenswürdigkeiten der Ostküste zu lesen.

Bald gibt es hier dann auch tolle Fotos und spannende Reiseberichte!

Ich hoffe ihr schaut oft genug rein, so dass sich die Mühe lohnt! :D

I declare my blog officially open!

A week from today I'm already in the plane to New York!!!
I didn’t pack so far and I also still don’t have a detailed plan of what I’ll all see. But thanks to my dear colleague (ups ...
Ex-colleagues, which I really miss by the way), Ill have a lot to read about the sights of the east coast when I'm on the plane.

Soon there is then great photos and interesting Trip reports!
